2009 Absentee Bidding Procedures – Phone & Mailed-In Bids & Surrogate Bidding This Includes Having Someone Other Than the Auctioneer’s Staff Bid for You It is always better to attend the Sale in person, but sometimes it may not be possible. This doesn’t mean that you have to pass up those special donkeys. There are three ways in which you can participate in the sale in these instances; (1) mailing in an absentee bid, (2) phone bidding through an authorized representative live at the Sale, and (3) surrogate bidding through another registered person attending the Sale. For the 2009 Great American Miniature Donkey sale, we have instituted new procedures for absentee mail-in bids, phone bids, and surrogate live bids during the auction. Surrogate live bids are bids made by someone present at the Sale, bidding for someone who is not present. These new procedures have been necessary to prevent us from having to extend credit to buyers prior to receiving payment as we have done at times in the past. If you are interested in mailing in an absentee bid, phone bidding or having someone in the audience bid for you (surrogate bidding), you must contact us in advance and supply information as detailed below. We have also instituted a ‘maximum +1 bid’ option for absentee mail-in bidders. All requests must be received by Wednesday prior to the auction to allow for the paperwork to be completed. Important Change: If you have someone in the audience bid for you and you have not submitted the proper paperwork nor have made prior arrangements with the Sale Management, the person at the Sale bidding for you will be liable to pay for the lot(s) at the close of the Sale, the same as if they had purchased the lot(s) for themselves.
